Liquid Lipstick seems to be all the rage in the beauty blogger world these days. I mean, why wouldn’t they be? They seem like they are just perfect from the flawless colors to the incredibly long lasting formula. I have to say it’s true! They are pretty amazing…the only negative is that the formula on some actually most is incredibly drying. For someone with dryer than heck lips…that’s just not a pretty look!
Typically I won’t wear a liquid lipstick unless my lips feel hydrated and as though they can handle an all day lipstick. Basically all of these brands claim to last all day through eating and drinking. You name it your liquid lipstick can handle it. I wouldn’t really recommend it for mature lips as they do show fine lines once they dry. It definitely isn’t a product for everyone.
There are so many different brands out there that I would love to try eventually but there are also quite a few that I have already. I am sure you’ll notice a trend in the colors I swatched…they are all mauve or nude in tone. I have enough dark lipsticks and I would rather purchase more every day colors rather than bold colors.
Like I said, basically all the formulas are drying so I suggest exfoliating or brushing your lips with a toothbrush specifically used for your lips only and making sure to hydrate them prior.
Kat Von D is the driest formula and the hardest to apply. It takes multiple applications to make it look even on the lips because for whatever reason the formula is splotchy. It also fades off the lips so ugly and quickly…starting in the middle. I probably wouldn’t purchase any Kat Von D liquid lipsticks again unless the color was an absolute must have! I love the Lolita color though 😟
Jeffree Star is so long lasting…probably one of the longest and the shades are gorgeous. This can literally be applied once and it looks flawless because the formula is so smooth and easy. I love Androgony for a going out color and Celebrity Skin is a perfect nude. If you’re at all interested in Lolita from Kat Von D go for Androgony instead.
Pinky Rose Queen is an interesting formula because it is really sticky. Once it dries the stickiness mellows out a tiny bit but this is definitely one that needs to be applied perfectly the first time or you’re basically screwed when you try reapplying later on in the day. It is long lasting though and not as drying as most.
Stila is probably my second favorite formula of the bunch. I love how the formula looks on the skin because it is so easy to apply and looks perfect with one application. However, I was really disappointed with the color Caramello because it looked fairly gray on my lips which was odd because when I swatch it on my arm it looks more of a warm nude.
NYX Sandstorm is awesome for an all day every day product. The only downside is that it definitely doesn’t last long…honestly doesn’t even last through a meal like the others. But for the price, formulation, and color pay off it’s worth purchasing! The reason it’s great for everyday is because it doesn’t dry your lips out.
I did an entire post on the Colourpop formula that I will link here. I love this new color in Chi though! It’s beautiful warm nude. For the price they are definitely worth trying out but I will have you know they are freakin drying!
My all time favorite formula…Dose of Colors. I practically wear Stone every single day because I am so obsessed. It is a your lips but better color that is perfect because the formulation is smooth and feels good on the lips. Touch ups are needed but that’s okay because it is seemingly perfect otherwise. It doesn’t fade ugly and just wears beautifully. Desert Suede will probably be my go to when I am tan. It’s just a tad too dark for everyday wear on my fair skin currently.
Little tip: use a lipliner prior to application! It will help a ton.
What liquid lipstick formulas have you tried?
