Subscription boxes are becoming increasingly popular in the beauty world. There are a ton to choose from and it makes it pretty difficult to decide. However, they all differ slightly from price to the products offered and the size of the items you received. I have been wanting to sign up for one for a while and considered the obvious ones like Ipsy or Birchbox but they seem to send mostly travel size products which isn’t something I was interested in paying for.
After a bit of research, I decided on two different subscriptions. The first being Sephora Play (more on that later) and the second being FabFitFun. I am sure somewhere you have seen this advertised as literally every celebrity or social media icon receives this box so naturally I wanted to see if it was worth the hype. It also kind of blows other subscription services out of the water. They also usually have promo codes for the first box which gives it you at $39.99. The attraction I had to this box is that it offers more than just beauty products and pretty much everything is full size!
FabFitFun is little unconventional because they actually offer their boxes every season as oppose to monthly. The box comes in March, June, September and November at about the third to last week of the month and the items cater to whatever season it is being sent for. If you end up signing up during a season, you still can get the box that has already been sent out so long as they have them in stock!
FabFitFun has two different subscription options. The first being the annual subscription for $179.99 upfront and that includes the next four boxes. This is considered the “upgrade” for the seasonal subscription. You pay yearly and are considered a select member so you get an email at the beginning of each season to personalize certain items in the box as some come with different design or color options. Your box also ships first (at the beginning of the month rather than the end) and you save $20.
The other option is the seasonal subscription for $49.99. If you use one of the celebrity promo codes you can get the first box for $39.99. For this one you are billed every season but the nice part is they email you 1-2 weeks prior to billing in case you are wanting to cancel. If you choose this subscription but want to “upgrade” to the seasonal you can totally do so! I would recommend it if you plan to continue the subscription and can afford the upfront fee because it is nice to get to customize the options and does save you a little cash since paying for four boxes would be $200.
So, what’s in the box? To begin with, they provide a little magazine that has an editor’s note, a couple of little articles and a description/price for every product in the box. It also shows the different options or colors that they had for some of the items. If you have the annual subscription you would have gotten to specify the ones you wanted otherwise with the seasonal subscription it is random. (Skip to the last paragraph if you just want to know whether or not you subscribe…otherwise enjoy a little opinion on each product).
The first product I want to start with is probably my favorite in the whole box and happens to be almost double the price of the subscription. The Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion Age Defying Exfoliator for $79. Made with oxide crystals and smoothing botanicals it provides bright, smooth and healthy looking skin riding you of dead cells. I have been using this and am absolutely in love. It completely smooths out my dry skin and my make up applies beautifully after!
The Gypsy 05 Roundie for $50 is such a beautiful thin blanket perfect for a beach day, picnic or concert. This is one of the items they had in multiple color options but I love the one I received! So springy! The magazine says you could also hang it on the wall or use for a photo back drop. I think I will totally get some use out of this in the months to come!
Made with rosehip, argan and coconut oils is the Briogeo Rosarco Milk Reparative Leave-In Conditioning Spray at $20. This smells absolutely amazing and helps to improve softness, strength and moisture level while also working as a heat protectant. I have only used it a couple of times but I think I could be hooked!
“Resting Beach Face”…I mean come on…how cute is that. The Milly Zip Pouch at $45 is perfect for carrying the necessities to the beach or pool! It is supposed to be water-resistant (I haven’t tested that out) but really cool idea. This one came in 4 different sayings with different colors.
Next up, one of my favorite sheet masks for hydration. The Karuna Hydrating Face Mask which individually retail for $8 but the box provided a 4 pack which retails at $28. This is a deep conditioning face mask that feels so hydrating and refreshing. I love to rub the serum into my skin after taking it off.
This next item is probably the only fail for me…but that is purely based on the color I received. The options were deep red, deep nude or neutral pink and I received neutral pink. Trust me…there is nothing “neutral” about it..it is kind of equivalent to a cotton candy pink and I am not a fan of pink lip colors to begin with. This is the RealHer Lip Kit that comes with a lip liner, liquid lipstick and lip gloss for $48.
The only “travel” size product in the entire box is the Deborah Lippmann Nail Polish Set for $19 but they are perfect for traveling with! I actually love the Deborah Lippmann brand and there were three colors in rotation for this one. I received the baby blue and lavender which I absolutely love!
The Hair, Skin and Nails Gummies from Nature Bound are pretty tasty…obviously I haven’t been using them long enough to see any difference.
The finally item in the box was a jewelry item. There were two different options and I am so satisfied with the one I received. The Emerald Duv ‘Joshua Tree’ Cage Bracelet retailing at $80. It is absolutely gorgeous…so dainty and simple. Luv AJ Diamond Kite Crawler Earring Set made with rose gold and sparkling stones for $85 was the other jewelry option.
Would I keep my subscription? Absolutely!! All of these items are full size (with the exception of 1) and all things I will definitely use. The price of these items are all mostly the same or double the amount you pay for the box. It retails at $369-$374 which is absolutely insane. My only regret is not signing up for the last box (winter) because it came with a beautiful mod cloth flannel scarf, a moleskin planner, candle and other fun items! If you are interested in a subscription box this is definitely the way to go! I cant wait to see what is in the Summer box. What are your thoughts on FabFitFun?
