Healthy eating is something that has never been easy for me. I really struggle with making good choices because I fortunately don’t easily see bad food’s impact on me. As I have gotten older, I have started to care more about the things I put in my body and desperately have been trying to kick the bad habits. Every once in a while I break and I also have cheat days but that’s okay cause for me those days are needed to balance the progress I am making.
Eating healthy helps me to keep my skin clear and my body feeling healthy and energized. As much as I love eating junk food and comfort food I can feel the effects it has on my mood, energy and skin. I have come to not enjoy that feeling to the point where when I do eat those things I just feel gross and uncomfortable afterwards. I have always thought about going vegan because I don’t much care for meat and dairy hurts my stomach but the idea of it is still really hard for me to jump on board with.
As far as dairy goes, I only drink almond milk but I can’t seem to let go of creamy sauces and cheese because I just love them so much! But because of how severely dairy affects me I hope to one day kick it out of my diet. Like I said though, no promises because I LOVE feta, goat, cheddar and mozzarella cheese just too darn much!
The easiest way for me to kick bad habits when it comes to food is to shop at Sprouts and only stock the fridge with good, healthy items. We also try to limit going out to 1-2 nights a week. However, I will admit…I do buy a couple chocolate bars every time I go because when I have a sweet craving I will just have 1-2 small pieces of one and it usually satisfies me! Right now I have coffee&cream (amazing), toffee seat salt, toffee caramel and sea salt dark chocolate.
My favorite snack right now is hummus with pita chips or mini sweet peppers with hummus! Right now I have garlic hummus as well as artichoke kalamata. Next I want to try the lemon zest hummus! One of my favorite salads has to be a spinach fruit salad with goat cheese. I toss a hard boiled egg in for a little protein and whatever fruit I have in my fridge! Top it off with some sunflower seeds and Briannas Home Style Creamy Balsamic Dressing and you’re good to go.
Eating well is hard but it starts with a good grocery trip and a craving for feeling healthy inside and out. What’s for dinner tonight? BBQ chicken (Stubbys Sweet Heat is the best sauce), couscous and mini sweet peppers with hummus or fruit salad! Too be determined 🙂
