There are always those days where we feel like we need a little extra something added to our everyday make up return. Not always necessarily because we have something important to do but because we just need a little pick me up or want to feel a little less tired than we are. These products are those items that I really reach for to add a little something to my every day make up. They are the staples that generally travel with me as of lately and can take any of my looks from a natural day time look to a smoky night out. These are definitely the “extras” that I find absolutely necessary some days.
Typically I am truly not a fan of the Tarte eyeshadow palettes. I have the Tartelette Matte Palette and truly found that it was terrible when it came to blending out the shadows. So, a few months ago I was skeptical about purchasing the Tarte In Bloom Palette but did it anyway because I loved the colors and it truly had every color I would want from one palette. I am so happy I did. The formula is definitely not the same as the original Tartelette because these actually blend fairly well. It still takes a little more effort for the dark brown/black colors but I will deal with that because the colors are absolutely amazing. For my daytime look I use flower child all over, smarty pants in the crease and activist on the outer corner as well as the lower lash line.
Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion because my eyeshadows always crease if I don’t prime my eyelids first. Love this one but make sure to rub it in right away cause if it sits too long it will dry strange. The NARS eyeshadow primer is my other favorite.
MAC Pressed Pigment in Deeply Dashing is one of my all time favorite eyeshadows. You can use it wet or dry and it is the perfect brown with a touch of shimmer. It looks absolutely stunning on my lids alone or with other products. My favorite part is that you can make it a very light brown or you can deepen it up by building it to a darker brown. Sadly, they discontinued this. I am wondering if they discontinued all their pressed pigments because they now only have two colors. I loved the formulation of these so that is totally upsetting. However, when I need a replacement I will be purchasing the MAC Blue Brown Loose Pigment because it is the most similar I can find to deeply dashing and it truly is a beautiful color as well.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow in Dark Brown is what I reach for if I want to add more structure to my brows. I love using this with my favorite eyebrow brush from Anastasia Beverly Hills #20. The brush they recommend for this is the #12 or #14 but I find that they apply too much product and doesn’t look as ‘natural’ as when applied with the #20. I have also tried it with the #7B which I love for powder products but with this is just applies it too blotchy you can’t get a clean line.
BareMinerals Stroke of Light Eye Brightener is the perfect lightweight concealer and has so many different uses. It doesn’t quite cover my under eyes so I do pair it with my NARS concealer underneath my eyes to add a bit of brightness. My favorite ways to use this is by cleaning up my contour, highlighting my face and cleaning up my eyebrows. It is such a thin consistency that you truly cannot detect it on the skin at all.
The lips…I went through a serious liquid lipstick phase trying all different brands and formulations. However, I found that most of them made my lips too dry to where on a daily basis and truly were just kind of uncomfortable to wear all day long. Another reason I haven’t been reaching for a liquid lipstick is because I have yet to find a perfect nude in any formulation I love. They are always too pink, yellow, cool toned or too dark for my skin tone. If your curious…my favorite formulas for liquid lipsticks are Dose of Colors and Anastasia of Beverly Hills but neither has the perfect nude color for me so I have been using Kylie Jenner in Exposed when I want a long lasting lip (usually when I go out to dinner or have plans) for a no fade look. So, I have started reserving those for going out with friends or events just because it is convenient to not need to touch up. For my everyday make up look I have been reaching for my all time favorite lipsticks.
MAC Honey Love is a true light beige tone with very little rose undertone but be warned this will be way too pale on anyone with a medium-tan-dark skin tone. If I have a tan I cannot wear this color but for every day during winter or right now when I am a little on the pale side this is perfect. MAC Whirl is pretty similar to honey love but this is described as a dirty rose. It simply is a more mauve toned brown that looks like a beautiful nude on medium-tan-dark skin. However, on lighter skin it definitely picks up a little more mauve. I love wearing this when I am tan but if I am not I pare it will a beautiful mauve eye or just winged eyeliner and it adds a little color to my look. Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Honeycomb is a gorgeous beige nude with no other undertone. This color is so similar to honey love but a smidge darker. I absolutely love this formula as well…it is the first I have tried of the Amuse Bouche Lipsticks and I definitely plan on buying more as they are so creamy and last a while for a regular lipstick formula. My favorite lip gloss is Buxom Full-On Lip Cream in Hot Toddy which is described as a toasty nude. I am absolutely love this formula because it isn’t sticky and has a bit of a menthol feeling when applied. It is supposed to plump the lips every so slightly. Don’t be fooled by the name ‘lip cream’ though because it IS a gloss.
Some of my other favorite nudes that I didn’t mention are MAC Spirit, Charlotte Tilbury Very Victoria and Charlotte Tilbury Birkin Brown (if you have a medium-tan-dark skin tone).
There are some products that most people don’t add to their everyday make up routine because they aren’t necessarily needed. We all have different skin types, concerns and things to cover. With that being said, there are a few products that I absolutely reach for and add into my everyday routine that you might not have to. These are my tried and true…I absolutely love these products and have been using pretty much all of them for so long…when I stray I always find myself going back to these.
Lately, I have been dying my brows myself about every two weeks and absolutely love the results. It gives me the bold brow I love without much effort and it fades beautifully. I plan on telling you a little more about that in another post though. With that being said, I haven’t been needing to completely fill in my brows on a daily basis so Benefit Gimme Brow #5 has been the perfect brow gel for giving them a little more color and it makes them look more full. I brush my brows up with this for a little bit of a natural feathered look.
Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner in Blackquer is the most amazing eyeliner for the waterline or lash line. This is an absolutely staple in my everyday routine to add a bit of dimension to my eyes. They also have a ton of beautiful colors…the formula is creamy and doesn’t bleed or fade. Definitely pick this up for your everyday makeup look because you truly wont regret it. The colors are just as amazing and pigmented as the black. But, if you prefer liquid eyeliner I love the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper…it really helps create the perfect winged eyeliner without any effort. It is so hard to mess up your eyeliner with this product.
My favorite mascara for bold, black and voluminous lashes in the Lancôme Hypnose Drama Instant Full Body Volume Mascara in Excessive Black. It does take a little more effort to get off but I think it is worth it since it gives me a ‘false lash’ effect without having to use any. FYI…the waterproof literally does not come off without some serious effort so if you are needing a good waterproof mascara definitely go for that formula.
